Two high school juniors are selected by their guidance counselor to attend Caney Fork Electric Cooperative's Youth Leadership Summit. The Youth Leadership Summit is rotated among the high schools in cooperative's service area. The three day seminar is held in March each year in Nashville, Tennessee.
While at the Youth Leadership Summit, students participate in leadership training, visit with their representatives from the legislature and senate.
Also at the summit during cooperative learning sessions, the students form a mock cooperative and elect a 10-member board that, in turn, elects officers and hires a cooperative manager and attorney. When presented with exaggerated stories of real-life problems that cooperatives face, the "board" decides how the situations should be handled.
