 New Homes Energy Efficiency Measures

 

  • Cost savings from properly installed insulation in the crawlspace, walls and attic.
  • Install high efficiency heating and cooling system
  • Proper duct sealing and insulation
  • Use energy efficient rated doors and windows
  • Infiltration Sealing

 

All Electric Appliances

  • Use Energy Star™ Water heater, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, and clothes dryer

Windows

  • The windows should not exceed 15% of the exterior conditioned wall area. Windows should have thermal breaks accomplished by thermal pane windows.

Infiltration (Air Sealing)

  • Caulk sole plate (on exterior walls between the bottom wall plate and sub floor)
  • Caulk corner T’s on exterior wall
  • Caulk studs around windows and doors
  • Caulk penetration for utility service coming through floors, walls and ceilings
  • Caulk around ceiling fixtures
  • Caulk heating and air boots coming through the floor or ceiling
  • Caulking, sealant, or glazing materials should be used to prevent the entrance of outside air through doors and windows
  • Weather strip around attic access if inside the condition portion of the home
